When your fraud alert is set a business cannot issue credit in your name without contacting you for your approval. You can set these alerts yourself for free through the Credit Reporting Companies either on line or through their toll free number. You only have to set the alert through one of the Credit Reporting Companies and they are required to contact the other two.
